The Lowell Hotel, New York: Rooms, Prices, Benefits and Airport Transfers

Planning guide updated October 2026

The Lowell is a luxury boutique hotel at 28 East 63rd Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, near Madison Avenue and Central Park. It’s suited to travellers looking for spacious, apartment-style accommodation and attentive service, rather than a budget stay. Room rates and airport-transfer costs vary, so treat the prices below as planning estimates and confirm your exact dates before booking.

What makes The Lowell special

The Lowell is a family-owned hotel with 74 accommodations: 27 rooms and 47 suites. Its residential style sets it apart from many New York hotels, with some rooms and suites offering full kitchens, wood-burning fireplaces or private terraces. These features are limited to certain room types, so ask the hotel to confirm them for your specific booking.

The hotel’s main advantages include:

  • A central but quieter location: Central Park, Madison Avenue shopping and Upper East Side restaurants are close by. Museums and Midtown attractions are also reachable on foot or by subway.
  • More room to spread out: The hotel offers Junior Suites, One Bedroom Suites, Two Bedroom Suites, speciality suites and a penthouse, making it worth considering for longer visits or families.
  • Hotel services and dining: The property has a concierge, room service, Majorelle restaurant, Jacques Bar and a guest-only Club Room. Some services, such as spa treatments, parking and pet-related services, may cost extra.
  • A boutique atmosphere: With fewer than 100 rooms and suites, the hotel offers a more intimate setting than a large chain property.

The location is a particularly useful benefit for visitors who want to explore Manhattan without staying in the busiest parts of Midtown. The Lexington Avenue–63rd Street subway station is about a five-minute walk, and other nearby stations provide additional options for getting around.

Rooms, packages and prices

The hotel’s room choices range from standard Lowell Rooms to larger suites. The official site does not publish a single fixed rate for each category; prices depend on dates, room type, occupancy and availability. As a snapshot, third-party listings recently showed rooms from roughly US$1,082 per night, while a listed November 8, 2026 stay for two adults started at US$1,893 including taxes and fees. These are examples, not guaranteed quotes, and rates can change quickly.

AccommodationBest suited toWhat to know
Lowell RoomCouples or solo travellersA deluxe room; some have a fireplace, but features vary.
Junior SuiteGuests wanting a sitting areaMore space than a standard room.
One Bedroom SuiteLonger stays or extra privacySome suite options include a kitchen and separate living space.
Two Bedroom SuiteFamilies or small groupsMore sleeping and living space; confirm bed configuration when booking.
Speciality Suite or PenthouseSpecial occasions or a high-end stayThe hotel’s most distinctive and spacious accommodation options.

The official offers page currently advertises several ways to reduce the room cost: 20% off the best available rate through “A Lowell Extra,” 33% off the best available rate for stays of three nights or more, and savings for stays of a week or longer. It also lists an Executive Breakfast offer. Check the conditions carefully: offers may have date restrictions, minimum-stay rules or limited availability, and they may not combine with other discounts.

Breakfast is not necessarily included in the room rate. One booking listing showed full breakfast priced separately at US$34–US$89 per person, depending on the option. Confirm whether breakfast, taxes, service charges and cancellation terms are included in the total you see before paying.

For the best comparison, check the hotel’s direct booking page and a reputable booking site using the same dates, number of guests and room type. If you want a particular feature—especially a terrace, fireplace, bathtub or kitchen—contact the hotel before booking, since these amenities are not available in every room.

Airports and distance to the hotel

The Lowell’s closest major airport is LaGuardia Airport (LGA), roughly 7–10 miles away depending on the route used. John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is farther—around 17–20 miles—and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is across the Hudson River in New Jersey. Road distance and journey time vary with traffic, construction and the exact airport terminal.

AirportApproximate distance to hotelWhat to expect
LaGuardia (LGA)About 7–10 milesUsually the nearest airport; road trips can still be slow in traffic.
JFKAbout 17–20 milesLonger journey; public transport includes AirTrain and subway or rail connections.
Newark (EWR)About 20–25 miles by road, depending on routeCrosses into Manhattan from New Jersey; allow extra time for transfers or traffic.

These figures are approximate. Before departure, check live directions and transit service alerts, particularly if you have a flight to catch.

Getting from the airport

From LaGuardia by bus and subway

LaGuardia has no direct subway station. One practical budget route is to take a subway from Manhattan or Queens to Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue or 74 St–Broadway, then transfer to the free Q70 LaGuardia Link bus. The Q70 serves Terminals B and C; travellers going to Terminal A can use the airport shuttle from Terminal B. MTA’s listed base fare for a subway or local bus is US$3, and the Q70 airport bus is free.

From the hotel, walk to Lexington Avenue–63rd Street and take the subway toward Queens, then follow signs for the Q70 connection. The route is less convenient with bulky luggage, and MTA advises allowing plenty of time: the trip can take up to an hour or more depending on route and traffic.

A second option is to ride the M60 Select Bus Service from an uptown Manhattan stop to the airport. It costs US$3 for most riders, but it is not the most direct choice from the hotel: you would first need to travel uptown to a suitable M60 stop.

From LaGuardia by car

A taxi, rideshare or pre-booked car is the simplest door-to-door option, especially with luggage. The journey is roughly 7–10 miles, but congestion can make the travel time unpredictable. Use the official taxi stand or arrange a licensed car, and check whether tolls, airport fees, gratuity or waiting time are included in the quoted fare. The hotel lists parking as an available service, but parking is an additional cost.

From JFK by bus, subway or rail

For a lower-cost trip, take the AirTrain from JFK to Jamaica or Howard Beach and connect to the subway or rail network. The airport lists the one-way AirTrain fare as US$8.75, separate from the fare for the subway or other transit. From Jamaica, travellers can connect to the subway or Long Island Rail Road; the best choice depends on luggage, timing and where they transfer.

For a door-to-door trip, official JFK taxi service to Manhattan uses a US$70 flat fare, plus tolls, tip and applicable additional fees. JFK lists additional fees that vary by time of day and destination; check the current rules and confirm the fare details with the driver. A taxi or car is more convenient with luggage, while rail and subway can avoid traffic delays.

From Newark by public transport or car

From Newark Liberty, public transport typically involves taking the airport AirTrain to Newark Airport Train Station and connecting to NJ Transit, then continuing into Manhattan and onward to the hotel by subway, taxi or rideshare. The airport states that AirTrain costs US$8.75 one way between the terminals and the airport rail station, in addition to the transit fare. Check the current NJ Transit route and ticket price before travelling.

A taxi, rideshare or private car offers a direct trip but crosses from New Jersey into Manhattan, so travel time and total cost can vary with traffic, tolls and pickup arrangements. Ask for an all-in estimate before setting off.

Is The Lowell worth the price?

The Lowell may suit travellers who value a calm Upper East Side base, generous room options and high-touch hotel service. It is especially appealing for a longer stay, a special occasion or a visit where having a separate living area, kitchen or terrace matters. The trade-off is price: this is a high-end hotel, and extras such as breakfast, parking or particular room features may add to the bill.

Before booking, compare the full cost—not just the nightly headline rate—and verify the specific room amenities, offer restrictions, cancellation policy and airport-transfer arrangements. The hotel’s published offers can make longer stays more attractive, but they are still subject to availability and terms.
